神秘的な “錆アート” を
描くアーティスト、
YASUKA.M さんに
インタビュー。
錆アートを始めたきっかけ
もともと大学で彫刻を専攻していて。
いろんな素材を使って作品を作っていて、ある時なんとなく鉄と木を融合させた作品をどうしても作りたくなって。
それで、木と鉄と、二つの素材の関係性を調べていて、たたら製鉄っていう日本の古来から伝わる製鉄技法に出会いました。
たたら製鉄の技法だと、伐採した山の木々と山から取ってきた砂鉄を火で熱して鉄を作り出していて、そういう、物質が変わっていく工程みたいなものを学んだ時に、今まで、無機質な、人工的的な素材としか見ていなかった鉄が、いきなり有機的で、大きな山をぎゅっと小さく圧縮したような存在に感じることができて。
そこから、鉄が自然に還っていく循環を作るような、そういうテーマで作品を作り始めたのがきっかけでした。
One day, I felt like I really wanted to make a work that fused wood and iron and I was researching the relationship between the two materials and came across an ancient Japanese iron-making technique called tatara-tekketsu (tatara iron-making). In this iron-making technique, trees are cut down from the mountain, iron sand is taken from the mountain, and the two are melted to produce the iron. And when I learnt about the process of changing the inorganic, I suddenly felt that iron, which I had not seen as an inorganic, artificial material, was suddenly organic, like a large mountain that has been reduced to a smaller size, and from that point on, I began to feel that iron is a cycle that returns to nature.
錆アート制作のインスピレーション
自然をテーマに作り始めたので、
自然の中から一番インスピレーションは頂きますね。
庭いじりがすごく好きで。
木を剪定したり、植物を植え替えたりしていく中で、自然の造形が変わっていく姿を見ながら、その現象を鉄に置き換えたり。
例えば、つるつるの鉄板を酸化させ始めた時から、どうやって酸化が広がっていくのかっていう現象がどこか、
木が育つ、根が張る
そういう感覚に似たような感じで、広がっていくことをシンクロさせたりして。
そういうところからインスプレーションを一番強くいただいてます。
As for inspiration, since I started creating on the theme of nature, I get the most inspiration from nature. Also, I like working in the garden. So while im working in the garden, pruning trees and replanting plants, and as I watch nature's form change I try to recreate that experience when I create my iron works, for example, when I start oxidizing a smooth iron sheet, When I see how the iron sheet is spreading, I am inspired by the way the iron sheet spreads in a similar way as a tree grows and its roots spread. The inspiration for rust art originally came from my prior work in college, where I used a variety of materials to create works of art.
製作中はどんなことを考えていますか？
鉄の本来の姿は酸化鉄で錆びている状態。
元々作品を作り始めたきっかけが、鉄を酸化させることによって自然に還すというサイクル。
酸化する中で、森へ還りたがるような
素材が森へ還っていくような
そういうイメージをこう描いていたので自然の中に自分もとけ込めるような、そういう感覚で、自然に寄り添ったりっていうのは、すごくインスピレーションを受けるし、なるべく、どんなに忙しくてもそういう時間を持ちたいなと思っていて。
庭の植物を育てること。
家の中でもずっといろんな植物に触れ合うこと。
実際に外に出てみて大自然や側の自然でも、どういうふうに植物が生きてるのかな？っていうのを見ながら、そこから素材の変化する形だったりを表現する。
そういうイメージを膨らませて作ったりしています。

It was on this theme that I started to create my work. The original form of iron is iron oxide, which is rusted, and the reason I originally started making artworks was to create a cycle of returning iron to nature by oxidizing it so I wanted to create an image of the material returning to the forest as it oxidizes. I want to be a part of that nature, That kind of feeling, being close to nature, is very inspiring and I'd like to have that kind of time no matter how busy I am. So, with the fragrance of growing plants in the garden It's about being in contact with different plants in the house or actually going outside and looking at them. I look at how plants live in the wilderness, or in nature nearby, I look at how plants live, and from there, I imagine the changing shapes of the materials. I create my works based on my imagination.

ふわっと深い香りだったのが凄く使ってて気持ちよかったですね。
泡立ちも凄くいいし。

少ない量でも使えるのですごくありがたい。
使い終わった後も、髪の毛を乾かしたあともさらさらふわふわ。
髪の毛がペタンコになりやすいんですが、
ボリュームが付くようになって嬉しいです。

The fragrance is a cool scent, not too sweet but not too cool, and the deep fragrance was very pleasant to use. The lather is also very good, As my hair gets longer, I have to push it many times, but I can use less, which I really appreciate. And after using it, my hair is still silky and fluffy, and although it tends to be flat, I'm glad that it now has a bit of volume.
